I've tried to answer every question a potential buyer might have as honestly and completely as possible — from materials and dimensions to shipping and long-term care. If you can't find what you're looking for here, don't hesitate to get in touch. I'm happy to help.
Products & materials
-
Each cabinet is built from 12mm birch plywood with smooth rounded edges. The interior receives two coats of matte lacquer and the exterior a satin lacquer finish — both chosen to protect against humidity, discolouration, and to allow easy cleaning.
-
The shelves are made from high-clarity acrylic with a glass-like finish. We chose acrylic over glass to reduce weight and eliminate the risk of breakage — without compromising the look.
-
Same principle — the front panel is acrylic framed in matching wood, held by discreet magnets. It removes in seconds and clicks back into place with a satisfying hold.
-
The cabinet joints have been tested to hold up to 10 kg — more than enough for even the most ambitious collection. For the shelves, the key factor is footprint rather than weight alone. The wider the base of an object, the better the load is distributed across the shelf. A heavy object with a large base will sit perfectly; a very heavy object balanced on a small point is more likely to cause slight bending over time. In practice, normal miniatures, collectibles, and scale models will never come close to this limit.

Yes. Custom finishes and alternative wood types are available on request. Use the custom quote form to describe what you have in mind.
Orders & delivery
-
No. Every order ships complete — display(s), shelves, a power supply, a dimmer switch, and connector cables. Just hang it, plug it in, and arrange your collection.
-
Absolutely. If none of the standard sizes fit your collection, use the custom quote form on the homepage. Describe your objects, dimensions, and any specific requirements and I'll come back with a tailored quote.

Yes — and it's worth doing. Any combination of 3 or more displays gets an automatic 25% discount at checkout. No code needed, any size or orientation.

All major credit cards are accepted through the Squarespace checkout.
Assembly & mounting
-
Almost entirely. Each display arrives fully assembled — just peel the protective film off the acrylic front panel and shelves, plug in the power, and your display is ready. Wall mounting is optional and straightforward, with full instructions included if you choose to hang it
-
Each cabinet uses a French cleat mounting system. Detailed mounting instructions are included with every order to help you hang and align your displays correctly. Hanging a display to the wall will require drilling two holes per display.
-
Yes — the French cleat system is fully reversible. You can remove and rehang as easily as you mounted it, making it ideal for both permanent setups and temporary displays.
-
Yes. Each cabinet ships with one free male and one female DC connector. Using a Y-splitter — with one male end connected to the LED strip — you can daisy-chain multiple cabinets in series for a clean, cable-free setup.
-
The displays run on 24V DC. Every order includes one 24V power supply and one touch dimmer switch, sized and configured to control your entire order — whether that's a single display or several daisy-chained together. Nothing to calculate, nothing to order separately.
If you expand your collection later with an additional order, I'll make sure the new power supply and dimmer cover your full updated setup.
Planning to power displays separately instead — for example, across different rooms? Get in touch before ordering and I'll adjust your order accordingly.
-
Yes. Shelves are fully adjustable to accommodate different model sizes. Shelf grooves are 25mm apart. Additional shelves are available to purchase separately if you need more levels.
Care & maintenance
-
The satin lacquer exterior and matte lacquer interior are both easy to wipe clean with a soft damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
-
Remove the magnetic panel and wipe with a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid paper towels or rough materials — they can scratch acrylic. A dedicated plastic cleaner gives the best results.
-
The double lacquer finish — matte inside, satin outside — protects against humidity and discolouration. Normal indoor conditions won't affect the wood. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight on any natural wood product.
-
If your display arrives damaged, contact me immediately at gilles@ondisplay.be with photos and I'll make it right.
-
Yes. Replacement and additional shelves are available to purchase separately. For any other parts, get in touch directly.
-
Yes. The LED strips I use are rated for approximately 50,000 hours of use — that's over 17 years at 8 hours per day, so failure is unlikely to be a concern for a long time. If a strip does ever need replacing, I can supply a new one directly. Installation requires some basic handiness but is entirely doable at home.
